Steve’s Auto Repair knows that a clean community will attract more visitors and residents to Prince William County. That is why, we joined the Keep Prince William Beautiful adopt-a-spot program, and will be nurturing our newly adopted spot to keep it clean.
Our first pickup was on December 31st, just in time for the New Year. Steve’s employees including the owner, S.T. Billingsley, carried their trash bags from Route 1 and Neabsco Mills past Northern Virginia Community College and Freedom High School to the intersection of Neabsco Mills and Dale Blvd where the Shell gas station is located. S.T. did stop at the Shell station to buy the guys “Mexican Coca Cola” (a soda that uses cane sugar instead of refined sugar) making sure those bottles were disposed of properly and picking up bottles that had not been.
The experience was rather eye opening for our Steve’s team. So what do people throw away? We picked up many interesting things and found out where fans sit on the hill to watch football games smoking and drinking and leaving their remnants behind.
We went back to the shop to pick up additional trash bags and found that we had to go back to spots we had already cleaned to pick up garbage that had fallen off people’s trucks.
While passengers in cars passing by often looked on our staff with disdain, thinking this was a punishment of sorts, as a community minded business we were happy to do our part in making the area we live in the best it can be.
