Our auto repair shop is helping local elementary school students prepare for a competition.
On January 21, Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire opened its doors to Cub Scout Pack 1373 for a Pinewood Derby Workshop.
The Dale City-based organization is geared towards youth who are in kindergarten- through fifth-grade. It offers and takes part in a variety of activities year-round, including a Pinewood Derby.
About 20 scouts participated in the Pinewood Derby workshop. Through this event, the kids were able to create pinewood derby cars, with help from parents.
These wooden vehicles were designed using a pattern and various tools, including belt sanders, a band saw, and a Dremel tool. Holes were drilled to add weights and the wheels. The participants even had a chance to paint their automobile.
“For me, it’s fun seeing the kids here build the cars with their parents,” Steve’s Auto Repair Co-Owner Scott Whitling said. “We’re glad that we are able to provide scouts with the tools and space they need to complete their projects.”
