The Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar is a good option for trucks and Jeeps.
Features of this off road tire
Offering all-season traction, this tire is reliable in the rain and snow, and has a 60,000 mile warranty.
It’s made with Kevlar, a heat resistant material that’s used in bicycle tires and bulletproof vests.
Kevlar acts as a force shield against sticks, rocks and other items that could puncture a tire’s sidewall, whether you’re off-roading or facing debris on the road.
This tire is good in the snow, but is even better on dry and wet roads. And since we mainly get rain around here, this tire is good for driving in Northern Virginia traffic, with knowing you have the capability to go off road.

When having work done on your vehicle, cutting corners can lead to costly mistakes.
The driver of a 2011 Volvo learned this after bringing his car into Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire.
They expressed concerns about a moaning or clunking sound the car made when traveling at 25 miles per hour. The sound would go away a little when the vehicle accelerated.
While working on the vehicle, the technician discovered that a couple of camshaft seals were leaking oil on the timing belt and serpentine belt.
Surrounding the pulleys, a timing belt makes sure that the timing of the crankshaft and camshaft is correct. The serpentine belt runs the power steering and the alternator.
Both belts and the camshaft seals needed to be replaced.
When performing a timing belt replacement, it’s important to replace the camshaft seals at the same time.
Some auto shops will choose to do the work for a cheaper price and won’t install new seals.
This can lead to massive oil leaks and disintegration parts. It also means that the customer needs to pay for new parts and have the work done all over again.
Cheap doesn’t always equal good. Doing the job right using good, high quality parts will save you in the long run by preventing you from doing the job over or breaking down on the side of the road.

A few months ago, Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire began using digital vehicle health inspections.
Through the digital inspections, our technicians are able to write notes and upload photos about vehicles. Our customers are then able to see them in an inspection report they can access through their email or texts.
The inspection reports include information about the vehicle, diagnosis and tests, and recommendations.
Depending on the problem, we have a section that explains the purpose of certain components. For example, if there’s a power steering issue, we can add in a video that explains what power steering does.
Switching to digital inspections
Before going to the digital inspections, the technicians would fill out a courtesy check sheet and check some items that would fall under the Virginia Safety Inspection.
We decided to change our process, because the digital inspection allows us to take pictures and videos if something is wrong. We’re then able to send it to the customer, so they can see exactly what we’re talking about.

You get into your vehicle, and the interior lights come on. You put your key in the ignition, and the dashboard lights up. You turn your key a little, but the car won’t start.
“What’s going on?” you might think to yourself as you repeat the last step. A no-start situation can be stressful, especially if you’re in a time crunch.
There are many possibilities behind this problem.
Car no-start causes
A few reasons why a car won’t start include:
Weak battery on a Dodge Grand Caravan
Dead battery: It could be a problem with your battery. You may have enough battery to turn some lights or accessories on, but you don’t have enough to turn your car on. Battery failure can occur for several reasons, including corrosion and drastic changes in temperature.
Transmission sensor: Some vehicles may experience a no-start condition because of a bad neutral safety switch, which is found in the transmission. There might also be a gear shifter problem where something isn’t lining up right on the PRNDL. You may want to make sure the vehicle is in park or neutral before starting it.
Anti-theft system: Another reason a car won’t start is if the anti-theft system is activated. Even though you use the key for the car, it can actually prevent the vehicle from starting. One indication that this is the problem is if the security light is flashing while the ignition is on. Also, most keys have some type of chip or transmitter that the car receives, and it’s not uncommon for them to go bad.
Bad starter on a Honda Accord
Starter: If you turn the ignition or press the ignition start button, and you hear it click but nothing happens, it may be a sign that your starter or starter solenoid is bad. If something is wrong with the starter, the vehicle will probably refuse to start even when jumper cables are attached. Other symptoms and the lifespan of starters are covered in this article.
Fuel system problem: Your vehicle may not turn on if it has a fuel system problem. It could be anything from a clogged fuel filter, a fuel pump not working, or even the fuel tank being empty of gas. Even if the fuel gauge reads that you have fuel, it might not be reading correctly.
Those tend to be the more common reasons why a car won’t start. However, there are other possible sources.
First, let’s explain how your vehicle starts. Your ignition switch goes to your computer and that computer communicates with the starter, spark plugs and throttle body.
The starter will engage with the flywheel (or flex plate). It will turn the flywheel, which turns the engine. Then, the engine will release fuel and air, and the computer will tell the ignition coils to send power to the spark plugs.
If there’s a problem with any of these components, it would lead to a running condition and could eventually cause a no-start.
What to do if your car won’t start
If your car won’t start after multiple attempts, you can try reaching out to a nearby auto repair shop.
They might be able to walk you through some steps that could get your vehicle started long enough for you to get it to an automotive expert. Having your car towed is an option if nothing seems to be working.
The autoshop can also start gathering information about when this problem is occurring and – if you’ve been there before – look at your vehicle’s history to see if it’s time to replace a part.

While heading down the road to your next activity, you might have heard a noise, seen a dashboard light turn on, or felt a shaking.
These symptoms can be the result of a number of problems. One possibility is that something is wrong with a hub bearing. This component takes the place of what used to be called “wheel bearings.”
The bearing is pressed inside of the hub. The hub is bolted to the steering knuckle and the wheel is bolted to it, enabling it to spin.
A lot of times, the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) is built into the hub bearings. This allows the computer to determine how fast each wheel is spinning.
This setup can vary among vehicles. For some cars, the hub and bearing come separate. Others have hub assemblies, where multiple items are put together.
Causes and signs of a bad hub bearing
A hub bearing’s lifespan can be impacted by a couple of factors, including road conditions.
If there’s a lot of salt and sand on the road, it could lead to corrosion.
Impacts also play a role. For example, if you hit a lot of potholes, the wheel bearing could wear out more quickly.
Drivers may notice these symptoms when the hub bearing is going bad:
ABS light
Growling noise
Roaring sound
Traction control light
Vibration
Noisy hub bearing on Mercedes-Benz
If a vehicle has a bad hub bearing, drivers may hear what appears to be a roaring sound or a growling noise.
When on a test drive, one of our technicians heard a growling sound that was coming from the driver’s side rear of a Mercedes-Benz GLE350. The noise changed when turning, indicating that the problem was with the bearing.
A lot of these new bearings now have the tone ring and the anti-lock braking system (ABS) wheel speed sensor built into them. So, you may see the ABS light and Traction Control Light appear. In rare occasions, the ABS can falsely engage if you have a damaged tone ring inside the wheel bearing.
If the bearing is loose, it may cause the wheel to shake a little bit, creating a vibration.
Keep in mind that you might not experience any indicators. You may go in to get your car inspected and the inspector says, “Hey, your wheel bearing is loose.”
Hub bearing repair: what does that look like today?
Hub bearing repair looks a little different nowadays.
You used to be able to clean and repack bearings if they were loose. For today’s vehicles, they just make them a sealed unit.
So, when a bearing isn’t as tight as it should be or is bad, it’s likely going to involve replacing the component.
When giving quotes to our customers, we usually give the price for a hub bearing as well as a hub, because there are some things you can’t predict. We would rather plan for the worst and hope for the best.
If you notice one of the symptoms mentioned earlier or something seems amiss, ask an automotive technician to inspect your vehicle and take it for a drive. They might be able to pick up on a noise or behavior that you’ve gotten used to.
