Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire was recently recognized by a Prince William County publication.
The Woodbridge-based shop was named “Best Auto Repair” in the 2018 Prince William Times Readers’ Choice Award.
Through the contest, community members could vote for local businesses and services.
“We are humbled by the recognition,” Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire Owner Scott Whitling said. “We like participating with and being part of the community.”
It’s the holiday season, and Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire is excited to participate again in this year’s gift giving programs for The Salvation Army.
“One of the organizations that we do like supporting throughout the year, but especially at this time of year, is the Salvation Army,” said Steve’s Auto owner ST Billingsley.
Billingsley put together stockings full of small gifts for children, which will be provided to children from five to 12 years old.
“Another program which is very good is, and is still a very big need right now, is the Angel Tree. The kids there are already vetted through the Salvation Army – they’re definitely kids and families in need in Prince William County,” said Billingsley.
For the Angel Tree program, the Salvation Army collects holiday gift requests from children in need, and places them on anonymous tags, that donors can pick up and use to fulfill the requests.
In 2016, the non-profit helped more than 6,000 families – roughly 14,000 children – in Washington, D.C. Metro area with the Angel Tree Program.
According to Billingsley, individuals can pick up the gift tags at Potomac Mills Mall and the Manassas Mall.

This week, Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire donated a manual transmission Honda CR-V to Northern Virginia Community College’s (NOVA) automotive program.
“This donation from Steve’s Automotive will greatly enhance our automotive program because it’s hard to get vehicles with manual transmissions,” said NOVA Automotive Instructor Gary Phares.
Steve’s owner ST Billingsley also serves on the NOVA Advisory Committee as a representative of the automotive industry.
About the automotive program
“We get donations wherever we can, so we can have a variety of automobiles to teach our automotive students. In our classes, they’re set up as 50% lecture and 50% hands on. So with this, students that are working in Honda dealerships can actually do their hands on training,” said Phares.
According to Phares, NOVA offers certificate and degree programs for indiivduals that want to work in the automotive industry.
“Right now there’s a huge shortage of automotive technicians in the field and I try to encourage students to go on and finish a two year degree,” said Phares.

The crew from Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire was out on Neabsco Mills Road in Woodbridge this weekend, cleaning up the roadway for Keep Prince William Beautiful (KPWB).
KPWB is an organization in Prince William County that focuses on keeping the county clean and beautiful, with an emphasis on preserving the environment and natural beauty of the area.
Steve Auto Repair is proud to run the “Adopt-A-Spot” along Neabsco Mills Road.
“We clean up basically from Route 1 on Neabsco [Mills Road] all the way up to Dale Boulevard. We find a lot of interesting stuff around here,” said Owner ST Billingsley.
According to Billingsley, the crew was able to take advantage of the nice weather to pick up trash.
“One of the things we do for KPWB – Keep Prince William Beautiful – is that we take care of the bus stops here on Neabsco Mills Road,” said Billingsley.
Billingsley said that each time the crew comes out to pick up trash, they collect between 8 to 12 trash bags from the area that they cover.

Each year, scouts from all over the Occoquan district compete in the Pinewood Derby, racing cars that they’ve made with their units.
Helping scouts build Pinewood Derby cars
Around 50 Scouts and troop leaders gathered at Steve’s over the weekend to create their derby cars.
“It was about helping the kids get their cars cut out, using the tools we provided. The Cub Scout Pack Leaders came in and worked with the kids to get the cars cut out,” said Steve’s owner Scott Whitling.
Steve’s hopes to help more Scout units with their Pinewood Derby cars
Steve’s purchased equipment to help the Scouts make their cars and opened up the shop on the weekend to give them space for the project.
“I like it. What was cool was how the kids and parents appreciated us providing this for them. Because they actually came looking for me when they finished, to thank us for helping them out,” said Whitling.
At the end of the day, all of the Scouts came together to clean up the shop and took on leadership roles.
Steve Auto Repair plans on doing this again for the scouts and hopes they can help other units.
