After seeing a need, our shop decided to help out and find and fix up a bus to donate to the General Heiser Boys & Girls Club in Dumfries.

But we couldn’t do it on our own – we had to work together to make it happen.

In addition to the techs and management at Steve’s Auto Repair working on finding and repairing the bus, two automotive companies – K&W Tire and Carquest – also stepped in to assist.

K&W Tire donated an entire set of quality tires, and Carquest provided much needed parts to complete repairs on the bus, to make it safe for the road. Both companies have been involved in community projects for several years.

For the club’s Executive Director Judy Moore, having another vehicle will make a huge difference – for herself, her staff and the kids.

“I am so excited about this new bus that we just got. We’ve been having to take two buses to schools, to pick up the kids, or picking up a group of kids and coming back and then sending the bus back to get more kids,” said Moore.

We’re proud that we were able to make a difference in our community at Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire.

Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire donates minivan to NOVA automotive program

Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire donated a minivan and automotive parts to NOVA’s auto program.

Steve’s Auto Repair & Tire was proud to donate a minivan and automotive parts to the Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) Automotive program, based out of Manassas.

“Steve’s has been loading the van up with starters and air conditioning compressors…a half shaft, a steering rack,” said Gary Phares, an automotive instructor at (NOVA).

According to another automotive instructor at NOVA, John Hicks, the program currently has 150 students in day and night classes.

“We train in all eight areas of ASE [certification]…brakes, alignments, suspension, electrical, AC, engine repair, engine performance, automatic transmission, manual transmission,” said Hicks.

At NOVA there is a 2 year automotive degree program, or a one year certificate program with job placement assistance.

While the program is popular, Hicks and Phares said that they rely mainly on donations from automotive shops, like Steve’s, to get parts they need.

“We use a variety of things in the program, so it’s not so much a question on what we need, it’s what can we get…we pretty much rely on donations,” said Hicks.

Phares said there is especially need for manual transmissions and manual transmission vehicles.

The instructors will pick up any vehicles or parts that are donated to the program, according to Phares.
