Local girl scouts are about to go head-to-head with their peers.
A Powderpuff pinewood derby is expected to take place on Saturday. Steve’s Auto Repair recently helped members of Girl Scout Troop 02372 prepare for the upcoming races.
We hosted our first pinewood derby workshop for girl scouts.
On April 29, more than 15 youth participated in the event that was held at our Woodbridge auto repair shop.
Dremels, belt sanders, and band saws were used to shape pieces of wood into Pinewood Derby cars.
Supporting scouts for 10 years
Steve’s Auto Repair has been supporting pinewood derby programs for 10 years. We started by sponsoring competitions. This transitioned into pinewood derby workshops when our owners realized that a lot of scouts lack the tools and space to make pinewood derby cars.
In previous years, our autoshop has held these events for local cub scouts. In February, we received an email from a parent whose daughter is in Girl Scout Troop 02372. His son had participated in one of our Pinewood Derby workshops.
“Supporting our community is very important to us, and hosting these workshops is one way we can do that,” Steve’s Auto Repair Owner Scott Whitling said. “We appreciate the opportunity to help troop members create cars so they can take part in the upcoming race.”
Based out of the Coles District, Girl Scout Troop 02372 is made up of sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students.
